There are multiple factors to break down when comparing the different Ram 3500 trim levels. These factors include engine, transmission, drivetrain, cab size, bed length, and available features. These differences can add up when shopping for a heavy-duty truck like the Ram 3500. The Ram 3500 is available in the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited trim levels. Let’s explore these factors and learn about the available features across the trim levels.

Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain

There are three engine options available on all trim levels of the Ram 3500. The first is a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 gas engine with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel I6 engine with 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. The third is a 6.7-liter high-output Cummins turbo-diesel I6 engine with 420 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque.

These engines are built to provide maximum power and torque when you need them the most. There is no doubt that you will have the capability to get the job done when you have one of these impressive engines under the hood of a Ram 3500. However, the Ram 3500 needs some exceptional transmissions to transfer that power and torque to the wheels. There are three available transmissions across all trim levels of the Ram 3500.

The first and most sophisticated is an eight-speed automatic transmission that can adapt its shift points depending on driving conditions. This allows it to optimize efficiency and send maximum torque to the wheels. The second is a standard six-speed automatic transmission, offering excellent performance in all driving conditions. The third is a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission with an engine torque management system. It is capable of providing full-throttle launches, responsive downshifts, and quick upshifts. When taking a pickup truck for your next vehicle, make sure you know what type of gas your truck needs!

As far as the drivetrain is concerned, all trim levels of the Ram 3500 are available in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. This option allows you to choose your drivetrain for whether you will mainly be driving on or off-road. Regardless of what engine, transmission, and drivetrain you choose, your Ram 3500 will be eager to please.

Cab Size

There are three cab sizes to consider for the Ram 3500: the regular cab, crew cab, and mega cab. The regular cab is a two-door version of the Ram 3500 that seats three people when equipped with a bench seat. It is only available on the Tradesman and Big Horn trim levels. The crew cab is a four-door version of the Ram 3500, adding room to seat three more passengers in the back seats, and is available on all trim levels.

The mega cab is a larger four-door version of the Ram 3500 with much more legroom for back seat passengers and is available on all trim levels with the exception of the Tradesman. These cab sizes give you the ability to customize and get the room you need.

Bed Lengths

Depending on your needs, you may need a longer or shorter bed length. For example, if you carry a larger payload, a longer bed will come in handy. If you do more towing, the payload may not be a big concern for you. There are two available bed lengths, and they are available on all of the Ram 3500 trim levels. The shorter size is a 6-foot, 4-inch bed or a standard-size bed. The more extended size is an 8-foot bed with room to carry everything you need.
