Summer is finally here and it’s time to explore all the local swimming holes. Whether you’re heading out for a fun day with your friends or taking the kids out for some water fun, we have some spots you simply have to check out. Learn about our favorite swimming holes to help you cool off in Dallas, Texas.

Relax at Joe Pool Lake in Lynn Creek Park
Sunshine and cool water can help make any day better, especially when you experience both at Joe Pool Lake, located within Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. Accessible within a 20-minute drive from Dallas, Lynn Creek Park is a destination you can reach before you finish your coffee. The park’s sandy beaches are great for playing, and the water is cool for swimming throughout the year.
Fishing is great on Joe Pool Lake, with species including bass, white bass, white crappie, and channel catfish. Visitors pay a nominal entry fee, typically per vehicle, upon entering Lynn Creek Park.
Spend the Day at Lake Lewisville
Life is more fun when you’re in the water. Lake Lewisville is located about an hour from Dallas. This getaway is a wonderful spot to spend a day in the sun without actually getting away too far from Dallas. The huge lake consists of more than 230 acres of shoreline and has much to offer. You can bring your boat, kayak, or take out a paddleboard to explore the lake.
If you don’t have a boat of your own, you can rent one at the site. For example, you can rent a party barge, boat, and jet skis. The party cove area is a fun way to spend some time with your friends while continuing to practice social distancing. If you want to make a weekend out of this popular swimming spot, Lake Lewisville also offers camping at several locations around the lake.
Plan Some Family Fun at Burger’s Lake
Grab your towels and water toys and head to Burger’s Lake. This attraction is about a 30-minute drive and located at 1200 Meandering Road in Fort Worth, but the lake itself is definitely worth checking out. Discover the surrounding 30-acre park with its spring-fed lake that is filtered for crisp, clean water, as well as slides, a trapeze, and six different diving boards.
You’ll find two beaches to hang out at, along with more than 300 picnic tables. Feel free to bring lunch and cook it on one of the 200 grills located throughout the park. Keep in mind that pets and alcoholic drinks are not permitted at Burger’s Lake. Admission to the park is $5 for kids ages 6 and older and $15 for adults.
