The sunny summer months are a great time to take your kids out for some fun activities. From nature parks and education centers to water parks and adventure centers, there is so much you can do. Kids of all ages love exploring the natural world, playing with friends, and spending quality time with parents or siblings. If you live around Lewisville, Texas, there are several engaging locations you can take your children to learn, grow, and enjoy their summer, so here are some fun activities you can do in your local community.
Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area
The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, also known as LLELA, is located at 201 E. Jones St. at the corner of Kealy Street. It offers many outdoor activities, such as hiking and fishing, and some programs, including Wild About LLELA, which is an outdoor summer day camp for kids ages 7-12. There are also night hikes for ages 5 and up that cost $15 per person. During the guided hike, you and your kids might get to hear howling coyotes, hooting owls, and catch glimpses of nocturnal animals. Kids 10 and up are also welcome on the guided bird walk.
The entrance fee to LLELA is $5 per vehicle for a day pass or $60 for a season pass for one vehicle and its passengers. For the summer months, its open hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and it is open seven days a week. Along the Trinity River, which runs down from Lewisville Lake, you can fish for bass, catfish, and sunfish, or hike the trails looking for the 12 hidden geocache tags with your GPS and collect a badge. Other activities include canoeing and kayaking if you bring boats, along with picnicking at various tables.
Hawaiian Falls Water Park
Looking for something to do on a hot day? The Hawaiian Falls Water Park is a great way to cool off and have some fun. The water park can be found at 4400 Paige Road in the town of The Colony, just a 15-minute drive from Lewisville. Their hours can vary with special events and other considerations, so check their schedule, but they are usually open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the week for the summer season, which runs until Labor Day. Prices start at $20.99.
The water park offers a range of fun activities, including exciting slides for older kids, a gentle wave pool designed especially for families with younger children, and a water walkway. The Kona Cooler is their continuous river that is perfect for floating and relaxing in a tube. Keiki Kove is a massive interactive water rain-fortress with many fun features like rope ladders, water buckets, geysers, several 40-foot slides, and a large dumping bucket. When your kids are ready for a break, you can check out the concessions. Hawaiian Falls Water Park is sure to keep your kids happy, active, and entertained.
Lake Park
Lake Park is over 660 acres of land on the shore of Lewisville Lake. It is located at 600 Sandy Beach Road, east of Mill Street. It contains four sections that are comprised of a golf course, athletic facilities, a marina, and day-use areas. You can have fun with your kids by camping in the campgrounds, exploring the beaches, and enjoying the picnic facilities. The boat ramp is available to use if the lake is at the right level. You can use the kiosk at Tower Bay to purchase a $10-day pass by credit card only.
Lake Park features many amenities such as a swimming beach, a couple of boat ramps, two courtesy docks, two reservable pavilions for summer gatherings, and a group picnic area. If your older kids play the popular game of disc golf, they may want to use the Tom “Old Man” McCutcheon Disc Golf Course, while the nearby athletic facilities include eight lighted soccer fields and eight lighted baseball fields. The park is also popular with birders. Lake Park is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer season and until 5 p.m. in the winter.
