Person standing on top of a hill looking at a sunsetSolitude isn’t a punishment. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself completely in the greater Dallas-Forth Worth area without distraction. If you find yourself with some alone time, don’t binge-watch that show you’ve been putting off — check out these solo activities instead:

  1. Bookstore Exploring

First things first — other people get in the way of books. While you’re alone, make sure you use an hour or two to peruse the shelves of some of the indie bookstores in the area. We prefer the brick-and-mortar indie shops, such as the Back Door Book Shop or the Tattered Jacket Bookstore. However, those are just two of the fantastic shops you’ll find around town. Explore each to find your next summer read.

  1. Take a Hike

If fishing isn’t your style, but you still want to enjoy the great outdoors, the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is a 2,600-acre oasis full of opportunities to spend time outside. There are multiple trails to choose from in this protected natural area, as well as plenty of opportunities to go kayaking, camping, birdwatching, and more. Take advantage of your solo time by immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Lewisville area.

  1. Seek Inspiration From the Arts

The numerous art galleries and museums in the area would take days to explore in their entirety. If you’re a lover of art, you have your work cut out for you. Spend an hour or two at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to experience a world-class tour of the contemporary art world. If you’re looking for an artistic community with plenty of locally-owned shops, head to the Bishop Arts District in Dallas. You’ll find plenty of galleries and shops that sell everything from handmade home decor and stationary.

  1. Soak a Line

What did our grandfathers do with their alone time? Get back to your roots and head to Lake Lewisville to brush up on your fishing skills. Lake Park has a fishing barge that lets you get out over the water, away from the shore. You might catch striped bass, catfish, white crappie, and a trophy largemouth bass at the lake. Whether you catch and release or catch your dinner for that night, a day spent fishing on the lake is a good way to refresh your mind after a busy week of work.

  1. Try Geocaching

One of the best ways to explore the ins and outs of your town is by searching for geocaches. Geocaching is a kind of treasure hunt where you can plug in coordinates into your phone or GPS device and use clues to find a hidden container at that location. In the containers, you’ll find a paper to sign and possibly a memento from someone else who found it. Lewisville and the surrounding area are full of geocaches waiting to be found.
Setting off on a solo adventure is one of the best ways to get to know the place where you live on a personal level. You never know what you’ll find when you let loose your own reigns.
