2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Overview

After its launch in 2022, Jeep Grand Cherokee fans reacted to the newly redesigned Grand Cherokee with universal praise. The Grand Cherokee’s broader proportions, must-have tech, and elevated interior, combined with Jeep’s legendary four-wheel drive (4WD) capability, made it the most awarded SUV ever. Our Huffines Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (CJDR) team wants to share what makes the Grand Cherokee unique.

What’s New in the 2023 Grand Cherokee?

After the complete redesign in 2022, we didn’t see many changes. However, what changed was significant. First, Jeep dropped the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 as an option in every trim except the Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve 4WD model. Instead, you have the 3.6-liter V-6 standard in all Grand Cherokee trims.

The following noteworthy modification was the Trailhawk, now exclusively equipped with the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain. Other additions include a more significant 10.1-inch touchscreen standard in the midrange models.

Trim Levels and Pricing

Jeep makes the Grand Cherokee in six gas powertrain models and another six with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In addition, Jeep has an extended Grand Cherokee L variant for the gas models that adds a third row for $2,000.

As the table shows, you have a Jeep Grand Cherokee model that fits any budget or lifestyle. And our finance department has decades of experience working with buyers of all credit categories so that everyone can own their dream Grand Cherokee.

Exterior Style

On the outside, the 2023 Grand Cherokee remains unmistakably Jeep with its straight lines, bold stance, and signature grille. However, the Grand Cherokee’s recent redesign adds a more refined and modern look than previous generations. For example, Jeep lowered the roof line and angled the D-pillar forward, adding a sleekness that offsets its larger size. Jeep also incorporated a longer hood and canted the nose forward for an aggressive stare.

Interior

Only the base model Laredo comes with premium cloth upholstery. Upper trims feature sophisticated Palermo, Nappa, or Capri leather and suede seats with heating, ventilation, and massage. Grand Cherokee L models have a third row, expanding your passenger capacity to seven. The 17.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row offers ample space for gear. However, the second and third rows fold flat to accommodate larger loads.

For 2023, Jeep upgraded the touch screen on the Limited and higher trims to a 10.1-inch model. Built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth allow seamless connectivity. In addition, Jeep has a new passenger-side touch screen with Amazon Fire TV pre-loaded. Now, your front passenger can assist with navigation, accessing apps, streaming music, and more. Jeep also has an available rear seat entertainment system with twin screens mounted to the front seat’s headrests.

Powertrain

Sadly, the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine is only an option on the top-tier Summit Reserve model. However, if you prioritize power, this engine makes an impressive 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and tows up to 7,200 pounds, making the investment worthwhile.

The standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is no slouch. This powertrain uses 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque and still weighs 6,200 pounds. That’s more than enough power for most drivers.

Grand Cherokee 4xe models use a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. This powertrain produces an outstanding 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque and has a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds.

Capability

Nothing compares to Jeep’s illustrious 4WD systems. The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, or Quadra-Drive II 4WD system. It also has an electronic limited-slip rear differential and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system, which lets you dial in your steering, suspension, and throttle to match the terrain or weather. Drive modes include Auto, Sport, Rock, Mud/Sand, and Snow.

In addition, you can add the Quadra-Lift air suspension, which uses semi-active damping for smoother ride quality. Quadra-Lift automatically lowers the vehicle while cruising the freeway for better aerodynamics and efficiency. You can also raise your Grand Cherokee to add ground clearance on your off-road adventures.

Driver-Assist Systems

Now considered must-have tech, Jeep equips every Grand Cherokee with a suite of driver-assist technologies to elevate your Lewisville commute and keep you safer. These systems use radar and cameras to scan around your Grand Cherokee, searching for possible hazards. When a system detects a potential problem, it alerts you. In certain situations, these systems can provide emergency brake support and steering input to help avoid crashes.

The suite includes adaptive cruise control, which lets you set your traveling distance and speed. The system automatically adjusts your speed while in traffic. Your automatic emergency braking system alerts you to obstacles ahead. If you react late to alerts, the system provides emergency braking to mitigate a possible collision. The rear cross-path detection unit works the same while traveling in reverse.

Jeep’s blind-spot monitoring lets you change lanes confidently, alerting you when vehicles are approaching or are in those sneaky areas you can’t see. In addition, a lane-keeping assist system helps combat driver fatigue and distraction by using subtle steering correction to keep you centered in your lane.
